Rise of the Affordable Sushi at Kuai Kitchen!

Unlike the Sushi Bars in the west, going for a “Sushi” meal in Bombay has always been an expensive affair. I mean until very recently, whenever anyone would mention “Lets go out for sushi” it would translate to someone’s 50th birthday or someone getting or maybe someone just being plain filthy rich :P.

This scenario is now however changing, and the recently launched Kuai Kitchen in Colaba is definitely in the forefront of this “affordable sushi” movement! Though, reasonable sushi is not a first in the city, “bloody good” reasonable sushi definitely is!

With an aim to create quality dining experiences at pocket-friendly prices, KUAI Kitchen is the newest venture by Mr. Neville Vazifdar of Royal China and Jia – The Oriental Kitchen fame. Focusing on Oriental cuisine, dim sums and sushi, KUAI Kitchen is a quick service restaurant as well as a delivery outlet that endeavors to be the destination for delicious and affordable Oriental cuisine across South Mumbai.

Along with promising to take you on a gastronomical journey delivered to your doorstep, KUAI Kitchen is also a cozy eatery with wall graffiti inspired from the street art movement providing a bright, quirky and cheerful ambiance.

A visit to KUAI calls for a binge of some delicious sushi! They have some great options of both Vegetarian and Non Vegetarian Sushis. I tried 3 out of the lot and all of them wre absolutely gorgeous!

My favorite had to be the Crunchy California Roll folowed by the Prawn Tempura Sushi and the Asparagus Sushi.

Though the sushis definitely over power the dimsums, the juicy Prawn and Chive Dumplings and the luscious Truffle Edamame Dumplings are a must have.

The Turnip Cake with Chilli Oil is a great option for vegetarians too!

They also have scrumptious platefuls of authentic Cantonese appetizers and the Dynamite Prawns and the Salt & Pepper Calamari  are absolute must haves for seafood lovers!

Being a Bombay Duck lover, I absolutely had to try the Kuai Special Bombay Duck and that was truly one of the best preparations of Bombay Duck with a great combo of the crispy fried fish and crispy fried garlic.

The Red Thai Curry and the Pad Thai though very delicious lacked the finesse of a Royal China.

Apart from this, KUAI Kitchen also curates a unique combo known as, ‘The KUAI Tiffin’ which includes one appetizer, one main course, one rice or noodle dish and one soft beverage available with either chicken, fish, prawns or vegetarian. This combo box will be available only at the restaurant at a great price range.

To wash down the hard to resist food, they have an exciting variety of delicious mocktails, drinks and milkshakes and the Dragon Daiquiri and the Cookies and Cream Milkshake are absolutely fabulous.

What was a disspointment though were the desserts. Though the Mud Cake was better then the Banana Nutella Cake, neither could match up to the high expectations that the food had set!

All in all KUAI Kitchen promises to craft an experience of authentic Oriental delicacies to savour in the comfort of your offices or homes through their on-time, doorstep delivery concept as well as a cozy eatery offering a youthful ambience, both without pinching your pocket!

Using only the finest quality of ingredients and unconventional cooking techniques to bring out the authentic Oriental flavors, the dishes from KUAI Kitchen are sure to satiate all your Oriental food cravings.

Until next time….
